Valleys made from the tears of heaven itself.
We were pumped and on the prowl for the perfect camping, and future cabin site that would be ours. Searching through the valleys of Tennessee and the mountain peaks of Blue Ridge. We were on a mission to find THE land that was going to be ours for eternity. It was almost primordial in the thought process that feverishly drove us through the many 3am nights. A place to plant OUR roots, what could one day be a legacy we get to pass down. I personally very much felt like a pioneer finding the spot for my family. A slow crawling, but lively creek snaking its' way around our property. As we gazed upon the wide open pastures of our future, the sun setting over the country landscape we would call home.
What made the whole thing worse is we were finding them! Glorious lands of flowing creeks, and valleys made from the tears of heaven. Rock formations four stories high, and thoughts of countless adventures yet to be had. The entire process was great to do because it allowed us to slowly have hints of just enough reality. Thoughts like "where am I going to poop", and "how much electricity are we truly okay with not having. You know all of the planning and thoughts you need to have in order to truly know what you want. Fence or no fence? Is it level? Can we even get running water? A well? How much is a well, and where do you get one?". You know... these kinds of questions.
Somewhere along the search process, suddenly length of drive came into play. Now we had yet another factor that was slowly but surely taking away the vast lands of paradise. I was more than okay with driving four, five, even six hours away if it meant some of the places I was finding. I was stoked, she was not. That long of drive meant it was instantly more than a day trip. Hauling gear, dogs, kids, and it had to be at least a night or else we would be driving just to turn around. Newsflash, my wife won that argument.
It was happening again, our dream was slipping through the cracks of reality and all we could do was watch it fall. It was the beach all over again! More countless 3am nights came and went and I was not finding any more glory. I was by all means starting to think this was all crazy talk, and reality was there to beat us into submission. Lucky for everyone, my wife never gives up when she wants something. If she wants it, it will happen. Sorry God, you created her, you should have known!
