(Not So) Patiently Waiting
So, we've fallen in love with the property, town and I have a crazy idea to open up a shop. Will this work? Is it even feasible? Are we crazy? Only one way to find out!
We get home and immediately put the application in for the land and I call the number on the for rent sign on the shop and leave a voicemail. Now, we wait...and wait...and wait. I'm not a very patient person (which TJ can attest to!) The suspense is driving me absolutely crazy and I start losing hope. No calls, emails, texts, nothing...crickets for what seemed like an eternity. In reality, it was about four days.
We finally get a call about the land and they want our pay-stubs and other documentation to move forward with the application process. I'm not one to procrastinate (here comes the lack of patience issue again) so I send the stuff immediately. My two biggest pet peeves are lack of communication and procrastination. These two things are enough to make my anxiety shoot through the roof. Questions like "Why aren't they responding?," "Did I do something wrong?," "What the hell is taking so long?!" etc. run through my head and I start to question myself. It's been another few days and I still haven't heard from the sales agent about the land or the shop.
I get a call from the owner of the shop on a Thursday saying the unit I was asking about has been rented but he has another one for rent three stores down! Turns out, he had been trying to call me for days but my voicemail was full and he couldn't leave a message. Oops! I frequently block telemarketers and didn't realize the iPhone still keeps blocked messages so there was about a kazillion telemarketing voicemails. We agreed we'd come down on Saturday and look at the space. If only I had known what would transpire two days later...
